"ABOVE THE BAR:  PJ CLARKE FROM IRELAND TO MANHATTAN"

P.J. Clarke, of Manhattan's famous bar,  was born in County Leitrim and arrived as a young man in Manhattan around the turn of the last century. Though he never married, he is the father of one of the all-time great saloons in the Irish diaspora, legendary P.J. Clarke's, housed on the ground floor of an 1870s tenement in midtown Manhattan. The cultural references to the bar are legion, in films, TV shows, magazines, on Broadway. And it all started with Patrick Joseph Clarke. WG TV's David Tereshchuk visits the iconic watering-hole with Clarke's grandniece, author Helen Marie Clarke, to get the story.

Marking the hundredth anniversary of the Titanic's sinking, on April 15th 1912, The Wild Geese http://www.thewildgeese.com contributor and media critic David Tereshchuk explores an under-reported sidelight to the tragedy. J. Bruce Ismay, chairman of the ship's owners, the White Star Line has long been vilified as a coward ... escaping in a lifeboat with women and children. What is the true story? And why did Ismay find refuge in the country of Titanic's birth, Ireland?
